Runner Up

Why we love it: Unique folding design, automatic speed adjustments and a host of other highly useful features.

If you want convenience, look no further. The Walkingpad A1 is designed to be the ultimate under desk treadmill and its designed with small offices in mind. There’s a clear, easy to read LED screen that shows your stats and seamlessly pairs with the included remote. You can also review your progress using the Mi Home App which shows how far you’ve walked, steps, and calories burned both today and over time.

With a top speed of 3.7 mph, you can walk slowly or at a more brisk pace when you feel like kicking things up a notch. 3.7 mph is a good top speed even for those with longer legs.

If space is at a premium in your office, you’ll enjoy the small footprint. It has built in transport wheels and folds to a mere 32 x 21 inches which is by far the smallest. You can practically put it on a shelf when you’re not using it.

When unfolded, you have a 42” x 16.4” belt width that is a little narrow but just fine for walking and working.

The belt and walking surface has a soft cushioned layer and a high density fiberboard so walking is both stable and easy on your joints. We thought the folding design would make the experience a little more shaky but it’s actually very stiff and easy to walk on. The cushioned layer has just the right amount of give to reduce the wear and tear on your joints.

The Xiaomi Walkingpad A1 also has two settings, manual and automatic. In manual mode, you’ll either use the remote or the pad itself to control the switch as well as adjusting your speed. While in automatic mode, you just step on to turn it on and step off if you want it off. It has built in sensors that can adjust with your pace as you’re walking.

Who should buy the Xiaomi Walkingpad A1?

This under-desk treadmill is perfect if you don’t have much space in your office.

Goplus Under Desk Electric Treadmill

Our Rating

5/5

Best Value

Why we love it: At the time of this writing its one of the most affordable options, has an excellent speed range, large walking area, and 12 built in workout programs.

The Goplus Under Desk Electric Treadmill sports a heavy-duty design and has a widened walking belt with a weight capacity of 220 lbs so it can accommodate most users even if you’re a little bigger.

Its touchscreen LCD allows you to track your time, distance, speed, and burned calories which you can enter into your fitness app for easy diet and exercise tracking.

It also comes with a remote control so you can control speed while walking and an emergency button in case you need to stop abruptly. Its speed settings go from 0.5 – 4 mph and it has 12 built in workout programs just in case you get bored with simply walking at the same speed.

With its shock absorbing design and 8 rubber foot pads, it’s quieter and generates less vibration when you’re using it. This is a big deal if you’re talking on the phone while you’re walking if you don’t want clients hearing the treadmill in the background.

Even better is that it’s very small and compact, plus it includes transport wheels to make transportation and storage easy on the back. It’s just 6.5” high so you can pretty easily slide it under a bed or couch if you’re using it in your office.

Who should buy the GoPlus Under Desk Electric Treadmill?

If you’re looking for a bargain treadmill that’s built to last, this is the best value.

What makes this treadmill special?

  • At the time of writing, this is the best deal.
  • Large walking platform: 41″ x 17″ belt
  • 12 built-in workout programs

Specs

  • Weight Capacity: 220 lbs
  • Speed levels: 0.5 – 4 mph
  • Touchable LCD Display and remote control with emergency stop button
  • The compact size of 51.5″ x 23.5″ x 6″ and transport wheels for easy storage
  • Widened Platform 41” x 17” (L x W)

iMovR ThermoTread GT Desk Treadmill

Our Rating

4.5/5

Highest Weight Capacity

Why we love it: The detachable console has a smart phone like touchscreen, great warranty, can accommodate and track the stats for multiple users.

The iMovR is the only treadmill that can track standing, walking, and sitting. With its smart touchscreen LCD console, you can keep track of your time, speed, distance, and burned calories whether you’re walking, standing, or sitting. And of course, it has an emergency stop button for safety if you happen to slip.

It’s quiet and compact design lets you work without distracting anyone which makes it ideal for office use. However, with a top speed of only 2.5 mph, you have to consider whether or not that’s high enough for you. If you are taller, that probably won’t be fast enough and you’ll want one that goes up to 4 mph. If you’re shorter, it’ll most likely be fine for you.

With a weight capacity of 400 lbs, it has the highest weight limit on the list so if you’re heavier, this might be the best one for you.

Other notable features are that iMovR has an upcoming CloudStation that will allow you to track your progress as well as cloud data storage, multi-device control, and a treadmill-accurate step counter. Soon enough you’ll be able to set up your profile in the iMovR cloud allowing you to control your ideal desk and monitor height as well as its position.

The main flaws (but not dealbreakers) are the top speed of 2.5 mph. If you’re near 6’ tall and have longer legs, this will allow you to maintain a comfortable work pace but if you like a brisk walk during your breaks, it won’t be fast enough. The other downside is the price. It’s more expensive than most of the others at the time of this writing. However, if you need a higher weight limit under desk treadmill with a great warranty then this is a solid choice.

Who should buy the iMovR ThermoTread GT Desk Treadmill?

If you like technology, have multiple users, and need a higher weight limit, this is a great choice.

What makes this treadmill special?

  • Able to track multiple users stats
  • 400 lb weight capacity
  • Large 50″ x 20″ belt area
  • Smart touchscreen LCD console for tracking time, speed, distance burned calories

Specs

  • Top speed: 2.5 mph
  • Belt size: 50″ x 20″
  • A compact size of 67.5” x 28.35”
  • Powerful 3 Horsepower 4000 RPM DC motor for smooth and quiet operation
  • 3-year warranty on motor, 2-years on parts, 1-year on labor

Goplus 2 in 1 Under Desk Treadmill

Our Rating

4.5/5

Best Budget

Why we love it: It works for both a normal jogging treadmill and an under desk treadmill.

The Gopulus has a well lit, easy to read multi-function LED screen for tracking your speed, time, distance, and calories burned. It also supports a higher weight capacity of 265 lbs, so everyone in the family can use it.

What makes it unique is that you have 2 sport modes for running at a maximum speed of 7.5 mph and walking at the maximum speed of 2.5 mph. Aside from its elegant design, this compact treadmill runs on a 2.5 HP ultra-quiet motor for a smooth and quiet environment while working out.

You can also enjoy listening to music while running just by connecting your phone through its Bluetooth speakers. Other notable features are it’s 5-layer shock absorbing belt, small folded dimensions, and transport wheels that make it easy to move around.

However, if you know you want an under desk treadmill for walking while you work and that’s how you plan on using it, this is not the best option. A top speed of 2.5 mph is an average walking speed but that’s the max. So if you want to go faster, you’re outta luck. In this case, we recommend getting one of the dedicated under desk treadmills with higher top walking speeds.

Who should buy the Go Plus 2 in 1 Treadmill?

If you want a combination treadmill that can accommodate jogging and slow walking, this is the one.

What makes this treadmill special?

  • Build for both running and walking
  • Bluetooth speakers for music and podcasts when jogging or walking

Specs

  • Weight Capacity: 265 lbs
  • Belt size: 40″ x 16″
  • Easy to fold and store with a folding dimension of 52”x 27”x 5”
  • Transport wheels for easy relocation
  • 2 sports mode for running and walking (if the handrail is folded, max speed is 2.5 mph and if the handrail is raised, max speed is 7.5 mph)

How To Choose The Best Under Desk Treadmill

As you already know, all treadmills aren’t the same and not everyone’s needs are the same. So before you buy your new under desk treadmill, think about these things:

Speed

The speed of your treadmill can’t be overlooked. If you’re walking and working, chances are you’ll rarely exceed 2.5-3 mph. However, if you’re tall (over 6’), then your long legs can walk faster and you’ll want to go ahead and get a treadmill that goes up to at least 4 mph when walking. The last thing anyone wants is a walking treadmill that doesn’t go fast enough.

Belt size (length and width)

The belt is where you’re actually walking and if you’re one of those people who has trouble chewing gum and walking, the wider the belt, the better. Opt for the longer and wider belt that’s at least 40 or more inches long and, ideally, at least 18 inches wide.

Weight capacity

You’ll know how stable and sturdy a treadmill is by looking at the weight capacity. Most treadmills, especially the compact ones have a weight capacity of 200-300 lbs. However, if you’re near the weight capacity, then opt for something higher. For example, if the weight capacity is 220 pounds, and you weigh 215, then get something with a much higher weight capacity. Otherwise, you’ll feel the flex when you’re walking which might not be the best experience for you.

Power of the motor

Motor power isn’t about the speed. Instead, opting for a more powerful motor means that your treadmill won’t have to work as hard. In turn, it means your motor will both last longer and produce a quieter ride which is nice if you’re taking calls while walking. We’ve all heard the sound of the 98’ honda climbing a hill. It sounds like it could explode at any moment.

Size and storability

If you’re putting your treadmill in your office, then you most likely need something that you can move out of the way and store easily. Most of them are 7” or less in height and have wheels on the front so you can roll them around. But just to be safe, it’s a good idea to make sure yours has wheels and isn’t too heavy for you to move around.

Ease of use

Most of the under desk treadmills that we’ve listed here include a remote control and/or a removable console that you can place on top of your desk. The remote and removable console are very convenient because you don’t have to physically bend down to start, stop, or change speeds.

What Are The Benefits Of Using An Under Desk Treadmill?

  • Because it’s not healthy to sit for long periods of time without any physical activity, regular exercise on a treadmill can help you improve your cardiovascular health.
  • Regular walking improves your metabolism and helps you burn more calories and tone your muscles.
  • Regular walking improves the blood circulation, which in turn, helps you to focus your attention on the task at hand. This then leads to increased productivity.
  • Regular walking also helps you to maintain a better posture, eliminating the chances of getting back pain and other problems related to prolonged sitting.

Walking vs Running Treadmills

group running on treadmills

These under desk treadmills are mostly designed for walking because running and typing at the same time is nearly impossible. But if you’re looking for a treadmill that has more speed levels and intensity, we recommend getting a folding treadmill, manual treadmill, or compact treadmill. Although walking is a lower intensity activity, it’s still cardio and has similar benefits to running. That said, running burns calories faster than walking. However, when you run, it’s not all day long like you do when you’re walking and working. So at the end of the day, the calorie burn will be similar.

As far as the build of the treadmill goes, running treadmills have higher top speeds, stronger motors, and they’re a little more durable. They’re designed to take the higher impact of running for years to come. Running treadmills are also typically more money for these reasons. That’s not to say walking treadmills are flimsy though. They’re perfectly capable of handling hundreds of pounds without feeling shaky.

Summary & Our Top Picks

All of the treadmills on this list are solid choices and you may already have a favorite in mind. However, a few stand out as our overall top picks. Here they are:

The WalkingPad A1 gets our top overall pick for a few reasons. First, it has a great range of speeds from 0.3 – 3.7 mph. Secondly, it folds into a neat little square that’s very easy to move around and store. And our third favorite feature is that it has two speed modes – manual and intelligent. The intelligent mode allows you to adjust the speed by simply stepping farther forward (to increase the speed) or further back (to decrease the speed). While it’s a slightly narrower belt (16.4”), we found that for simple walking while you work, it wasn’t a big deal. We prefer a wider belt but this isn’t a deal breaker and didn’t stop us from making it our top choice.

We chose the Lifespan TR1200 as our premium pick for a variety of reasons. It’s extremely durable with a 350 lb weight capacity which makes the walking experience very smooth and stable. It also has the detachable module that you can place on your desk to clearly monitor your stats and control the treadmills speed. Additionally, it has an excellent range of speeds from 0.4 – 4 mph which works for anyone including very tall individuals and it has the widest belt (20”). And finally, it has an excellent warranty. If you have a few extra bucks to spend, you’ll definitely be happy with the Lifespan TR1200.

The GoPlus is our top value pick because of a few reasons. At the time of this writing, it’s one of the most affordable options with the best combination of premium features. The speeds range from 0.5 – 4 mph, it has a decently sized run belt that’s 17” wide, it holds 220 lbs, it’s easy to transport, has 12 built in workout programs, and it has an easy to use remote control. It doesn’t have the ultra-wide belt, detachable module, or the higher weight capacity of the top premium but if those aren’t deal breakers for you, you’ll find the GoPlus to be an excellent value for the money.

There you have it! If you want the best under desk treadmill, you can’t go wrong with any of these three.
